Configure multiple IPv6 in the same NIC under RHEL

You can configure multiple IPv6 adressess in the same NIC with the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files just like IPv4 addresses.

Ensure that ipv6 kernel module is loaded.

# modprobe ipv6

Enable IPv6 in the sysconfig network file.

# cat <<EOF>> /etc/sysconfig/network
IPV6INIT=yes
EOF

Make the changes in the network file configuration to fit your needs.

# cat <<EOF>> /etc/sysconfig/ifcfg-eth1
IPV6INIT="yes"
IPV6ADDR="fe80::2/64"
IPV6ADDR_SECONDARIES="fe80::3/64 fe80::4/64"
IPV6_DEFAULTGW=fe80::1/64
DNS1=2001:4860:4860::8888
DNS2=2001:4860:4860::8844
EOF

Then bring the network interface up.

# ifup eth1
